On 12th August 2025, Dr. Hahnemann Homoeopathy College and Research Center hosted an insightful and impactful Breastfeeding Awareness Program in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week. This annual event, recognized globally from 1st to 7th August, is a time to promote the many benefits of breastfeeding and to advocate for policies and practices that support nursing mothers and their babies.
The college took this opportunity to educate students, faculty, and the local community on the immense health benefits of breastfeeding, not just for the infant, but also for mothers. The program featured a variety of engaging activities, including informative sessions, expert talks, and interactive workshops designed to foster a deeper understanding of the importance of breastfeeding in maternal and child health.
Interactive Workshops: Hands-On Learning for Mothers and Families
Following the keynote, the event moved into interactive workshops, where attendees had the chance to participate in hands-on sessions led by certified lactation consultants. These workshops covered topics such as:
- Techniques for Proper Latching: Ensuring the baby’s proper latch to prevent nipple pain and promote efficient milk transfer.
- Breastfeeding Challenges: Addressing common issues such as engorgement, mastitis, and low milk supply, along with practical solutions and tips.
- Breastfeeding in Public: Discussing the societal challenges mothers face when breastfeeding outside the home and how to create a supportive environment for nursing mothers everywhere.
Mothers, expectant parents, and healthcare students from the college came together to discuss personal experiences, share challenges, and learn from one another in an open, supportive atmosphere. The workshops also emphasized the importance of family and community support in a mother’s breastfeeding journey, highlighting that breastfeeding is not just a mother’s responsibility, but a shared commitment among families, healthcare providers, and society.
Supporting Policies for Breastfeeding Mothers
The program also featured a panel discussion on the need for workplace and societal policies that support breastfeeding mothers. Experts in the field discussed the World Health Organization’s recommendations for breastfeeding and the need for better policies that enable mothers to breastfeed in the workplace, educational institutions, and public spaces.
Efforts to provide private, comfortable spaces for nursing mothers, as well as the importance of maternity leave, were key topics during the discussion. The panelists also called on the government to introduce better regulations for maternity benefits, ensuring that all mothers have access to the support they need.

Community Outreach: Raising Awareness
To broaden the reach of the program, the college also launched an awareness campaign on social media, sharing facts, infographics, and personal stories from breastfeeding mothers. This digital outreach aimed to break down common misconceptions surrounding breastfeeding and encourage more women to consider breastfeeding as the primary source of nutrition for their newborns.
The campaign also highlighted local resources available for breastfeeding mothers, including lactation support groups, helplines, and local clinics, ensuring that new and expectant mothers have easy access to information and support.
Conclusion: A Unified Effort for a Healthier Future
World Breastfeeding Week serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of breastfeeding for a child’s health and well-being. The Breastfeeding Awareness Program at Dr. Hahnemann Homoeopathy College and Research Center underscored the critical need for education, support, and advocacy in ensuring that all mothers have the opportunity to breastfeed successfully.
By creating a platform for discussion, education, and community engagement, the event not only celebrated the benefits of breastfeeding but also reinforced the message that the health and future of our children begin with a strong foundation — and that foundation is breastfeeding.
The event concluded with a heartfelt thank-you to all the speakers, participants, and attendees who made this event a resounding success. Dr. Hahnemann Homoeopathy College remains committed to promoting maternal and child health and will continue to champion initiatives that support the health and well-being of families everywhere.
